Purchasing a Show Prospect

The following is a summary of requirements for purchasing a show prospect puppy here at Trail's End.

* Email or call Shannon Carlson with details about yourself including any past show experience and what exactly you're looking for.  Email: trailsendboxers@fireserve.net. Phone: home (541) 850-8985 or cell (541) 891-2835.

*  Preference and priority is given to people who have already shown dogs and have titled dogs in conformation and/or performance venues.  We are very reluctant to place a show prospect puppy in a home that has never shown before and is not local to us.  It's too hard to mentor someone long distance and the puppy typically doesn't get shown.

*  We'll put you on our waiting list and keep you updated on the breeding, pregnancy, and whelping.

*  Puppies are evaluated at 8 weeks old and then placed appropriately based on our waiting list.

*   It's very important to us that our puppies are loved pets that are shown.  Our show prospect puppies are to be part of the family and not confined to a kennel.

*  To ensure a puppy isn't "ruined" due to a bad ear crop, the puppy will have its ears cropped before it leaves Trail's End or the cropping must be done by a vet approved by us.

*  If we feel we have a good relationship with a buyer, options for co-ownership may exist to reduce the initial cost of the puppy substantially.  Contract options are very negotiable.  For example, once the puppy gets its champion title, we may sign off, we may want to breed to the puppy down the road and then sign off, we may get a puppy back and then the puppy is sole property of the buyer, etc.  All options are negotiable and effects the purchase price of the puppy.  It's an advantage for the buyer as you have the knowledge, advice, and help of the breeder each step of the way along with getting a super puppy.  We may be willing to part with an exceptional puppy if we can still have ties to that puppy for a period of time.

* All due effort to obtain Puppy’s championship will be made which will include keeping the puppy in proper condition, consistently showing, and usually entails hiring a professional handler.  Handling fees to obtain a champion title can cost around $3500.  If the puppy resides close to us at Trail's End, arrangements can be made with us for transportation to shows, having me show the puppy, etc.  There are a lot of options.

*  In our contracts we have timelines for puppy success in the show ring.  If needed, the puppy will be evaluated by us and the puppy's handler/handlers after 20 shows in the adult classes as to whether the puppy's show career should be continued.  The puppy's structure and health will be considered as well as the buyer's expense.  If we consider the puppy worthy of a championship, a mutually agreed upon time line and expense cap for that goal will be in place.  If the puppy is deemed unfinishable, the purchase price will be refunded down to pet price plus the ear crop.

*  All show puppies must pass tests for ARVC, SAS, and hip dysplasia before being bred.

*  See "Finding the Right Breeder" for more details on what a contract will include.  We have health guarantees on all our puppies, as well.  Our contracts are very fair and protect the puppy, buyer, and us.  If you're interested in a show puppy, we can email you a copy of our contract.
