Our Family Christmas 2006: Shannon & Mark Carlson

& the fur kids (left to right) -Abby, Java, Latte', Ellie, and Smoke.

My father grew up with boxers in the fifties and sixties and decided to introduce our family to this outstanding breed while I was in high school.  I haven't been without a boxer since.

Trail's End Boxers began with Max and Maggie, my first two boxers.  They were wonderful pets and incredible agility competitors earning many titles.  They introduced me to the obedience and agility rings and to the incredible athletic ability and intelligence of this breed. See Our Past.

Our third boxer my husband, Mark, and I were fortunate enough to purchase from the Glennroe/Telstar lines.  Ellie is the foundation of Trail's End Boxers. She finished her breed championship very quickly under the expert guidance of Cheryl Cates and has garnered several agility titles. Bred to Am/Can CH Glennroe Rob Roy of Telstar, SOM, Scotty, in 2000 this breeding produced six promising bitches.  One is a champion (our Abby) and three others were pointed.  Abby is our first home-bred champion. See Our Present.

The same progression followed Abby and she had her first litter in 2003 bred to Ch Jem's Pearl Jam, SOM.  I kept a beautiful brindle bitch, Java, who is a champion with multiple agility titles and the future of Trail's End Boxers.

Ellie also produced a second litter in 2003 through frozen semen and surgical AI bred to Ch Holly Lane's Spin a Dream.  From her second litter, I co-own with a good friend of mine, Sharon Arntz, Ch Trail's End Fashionably Late OA, OAJ, CGC "Rogan" who finished very quickly with 3 majors and has several agility titles.

Abby's second litter was born June 10th, 2005.  She was bred via frozen semen and surgical AI to Ch Rosend's Bo Diddley, SOM, who sadly passed away 9 years ago.

Abby's third and final litter was born August 7th, 2006.  She was bred to Ch Dynamic-Shera's Court Jazzter  "Andy".  They were affectionately dubbed "The Brew Crew" as they were all named after coffee & Oregon Microbrews.  From that litter, staying here is Latte-Trail's End Caffe Macchiato.  Also look for her brothers competing in agility and obedience.

Jack, Xac, Mac, Latte, & Porter (7 wks old)

November of 2007, I fell in love with a flashy brindle boy bred by Beth Pariseau of Bix-L Boxers.  I just had to have him!  Jeter - Bix-L Trail's End Franchise Player - joined the Trail's End crew and has since gone on to win the 9-12 month brindle dog class at the 2008 American Boxer Club National Specialty owner-handled!  We look forward to Jeter's success.

May 28th, 2008, Java produced her first litter bred to "Mugsy" Ch Bix-L's Ricochet to Greyhawk, SOM. From the 5 beautiful puppies, look for "Annie"-Trail's End Hot Shot at Stellar and "Ty" - Trail's End Cookin' With Fire to hit the show ring early 2009.  We are very excited about these youngsters!

To date (June 2007), we've put 41 titles on 6 dogs we own or have owned:

4 Breed Champions (CH)  Ellie, Abby, Java, & Rogan

24 AKC Agility Titles (NA, NF-AX,AXJ)  Max, Maggie, Ellie, Java, & Rogan

7 NADAC Agility Titles (NAC-NJC) Max, Maggie, Ellie, Abby, & Java

    1 Obedience Title (CD) Max

5 Canine Good Citizen titles (CGC) Max, Maggie, Ellie, Abby, & Rogan

AND we're not done yet.  Rogan & Java are hitting the agility and rally obedience rings hard & Latte' and Jeter are hitting the show ring.

We chose Trail's End as a kennel name based on the painting "End of the Trail."  This was my grandfather's favorite painting.  When he passed away and my parents took over my grandparents' horse and cattle ranch, they decided to name it "End of the Trail Ranch" in his honor.  Condensed down to "Trail's End" for ease of naming dogs, I also like the symbolism it represents: reaching a destination perhaps after a long journey.  At the trail's end, you have reached your destination.

Trail's End Boxers is dedicated to the betterment of the boxer breed.  We believe in producing dogs that are true to the boxer standard.  These dogs are sound in the mind, as well as, the body.  Our dogs should be first rate companions as well as show animals.  They should snuggle up on the couch with their owners, run and play with the kids, patrol the premises, and bark at intruders.  As show dogs, they should hold themselves with the noble bearing indicative of this fine breed.  Outgoing and self-assured, Trail's End Boxers should be comfortable in any ring whether it's breed, agility, or obedience.

I'm a member of the American Boxer Club, an associate member of the East Bay Boxer Club, and a member of Klamath Dog Fanciers.

We feed raw diet here at Trail's End and our dogs are on a modified vaccination schedule.  The health of our dogs have never been better!

I am an English teacher at Henley Middle School and a girls' varsity basketball coach at Henley High School.  Go, Hornets!  My husband, Mark, works for and is part owner of Aspen Environmental, an environmental compliance company.

Trail's End is located in Klamath Falls in beautiful Southern Oregon.
