My first true show dog was Ellie. She was a pleasure to watch in the ring. She finished her championship in a flurry under the expert guidance of Cheryl Cates at only 18 months old. Ellie earned two four point majors and one five point major along the way. She had an excellent pedigree, a clear heart (SAS normal 1/00 and ARVC clear with 0 VPCs 11/99 & 8/02), excellent hips (PennHip .29 right hip and .33 left hip 3/03) and had lovely puppies in two litters. Ellie also earned several agility titles. Ellie was named after the Tracy Chapman song I love, "Give Me One Reason", and it was sarcastically, "Give me one reason NOT to get her" when she was offered to me! |

On July 7th, 2000, Ellie whelped a beautiful litter of six bitch puppies. She was bred to two time top twenty contender and multiple group winner, Am/Can Ch Glennroe Rob Roy of Telstar, SOM "Scotty". One puppy is a breed champion "Abby" and is here with us at Trail's End. Three others were pointed, and the remaining two are in loving pet homes. |

Ellie was bred via frozen semen and surgical AI to Ch Holly Lane's Spin a Dream "Spike" and whelped another very nice litter of six on August 3rd, 2003. Spike was another top-twenty contender and multiple best in show winner. He brought a pedigree that is beautiful. We are very excited that Rogan finished his championship very quickly and has multiple agility titles. Ellie earned her Canine Good Citizen title, or CGC, which demonstrated her good manners around strangers and other dogs. |
Ellie was retired from agility, but being a great athlete and highly intelligent, she did quite well. With very limited showing Ellie earned her AKC Open Standard title (OA) and her Open Jumpers with Weaves (OAJ) title, all with high placings. Her first NADAC (North American Dog Agility Council) trial yielded her NADAC Novice Standard title (NAC) and a leg towards her tunnelers title. She brought home 9 ribbons in one weekend. |

For 9 weeks, we had 5 generations here at Trail's End. Sadly we had to help our great, great grandma dog, Ellie, to the Rainbow Bridge December 7th, 2009. In May of 2009, Ellie had an emergency surgery for bloat. Being 11 1/2 years old, it was really hard on her. She recovered but aged very quickly after that. A few weeks shy of turning 12, we helped Ellie to the Rainbow Bridge after seeing that her organs were failing. She left us while she laid in my lap on her favorite bed. I will always be grateful for my wonderful vet, Dr. Karen Bird, DVM, who came to my house to help Ellie on her journey. I know Ellie's romping with Max and Maggie, healthy, happy, and the silly Beanie she's always been. Sweet dreams, Beans! We miss you... Mom |
We will forever miss our Ellie's "Beanie wiggle", her dog show trot in the agility ring, her flying lead changes when she loped around the yard. Beans had several tricks she performed for my school kids. The favorite was that she'd play dead after you shot her with your finger gun. The kids thought that was awesome! She'd raise her head and look at you and I'd have to say, "You're still dead" and she'd lay her head back down. It was so darn cute. How lucky was I to have such a beautiful, smart, sweet girl... Wow. We were truly blessed. |

If you've ever known the joyful sound of barks that fill the air; a sloppy kiss, a friendly paw, a quiet, adoring stare. If you've ever had a special friend to share a tear or two. Or maybe just a wagging tail to lift you when you're blue. If you've ever felt the wrenching pain that only death can send... then you have lost not just a dog --- you've truly lost a friend..... |
